The One Ring™ |
This page is dedicated to recording and organizing my adventures and creative works for use with The One Ring™roleplaying game, second edition, by Free League Publishing.
For my first project, I use Strider Mode for my own enjoyment (and hopefully yours), in a series of blog posts, collected and linked below. I have attempted to present each post in a way that serves as a written example. It is for you to decide if it is any good or helpful. My goal is to have fun writing it!
I want to thank Francesco Nepitello and Marco Maggi for designing the core rules of the game and Shawn Tomkin and Matt Click for writing Strider Mode for solo adventuring. In addition, I want to thank Gareth Hanrahan for being the lead writer of Moria™: Through the Doors of Durin, as well as his first edition writings, including: The Darkening of Mirkwood and The Heart of the Wild with Francesco Nepitello. Francesco wrote Lake-town and numerous writers contributed to Erebor: The Lonely Mountain. Thank you to everyone. I have drawn from all of these works and used characters and events presented in them to maintain continuity with the game.
Barâz-felak Náli: The Sacred Expeditions (Delvings) of Náli
ᛒᚨᚱᚨᛉ ᚠᛖᛚᚨᚴ ᚾᚨᛚᛁ
In my first attempt at Strider Mode, I wanted to tell the stories of Náli, the Dwarf named in the Book of Mazarbul among those who perished during Balin's expedition into Moria.
“‘It is grim reading,’ he [Gandalf] said. ‘I fear their end was cruel. Listen! We cannot get out. We cannot get out. They have taken the Bridge and second hall. Frár and Lóni and Náli fell there.’”
–Tolkien, J.R.R.. The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Chapter 5: The Bridge of Khazad-dûm
It is only here that Náli is ever mentioned and I thought it would be intriguing to imagine who he was and what his life was like. Where did he come from? Why was he chosen for the task?
I decided to tell these stories one blog post at a time and link them here to allow for comments on each post as they come.
